Foundation Woodworking Course

We offer three ‘foundation’ woodworking courses, each catering for different experience levels of woodwork.

All projects made during the classes may be taken home.

Beginners course
Duration: 4 classes
(Consecutive Saturdays)

Consolidated foundation woodworking course (5 days )

All three Foundation courses as a consolidated course over 5 continuous days – Monday to Friday. A minimum of 4 students (maximum of 6) are required to enroll as this course would require us to close the workshop. The total cost per person is currently R4,750 (includes materials). This course is ideal for corporate participants and small groups!

Depending on demand and an adequate enrolment.  

Beyond the foundation courses: Single participant 6hrs / R 1450 (plus the cost of materials) . . . . . two participants (maximum) 6hrs / R 850 each (plus cost of materials)

Often students wish to learn skills beyond those covered in the ‘Foundation Course’ in order to carry out a particular project – eg router use

6 hours of supervised assistance – may include the use of standing machinery under supervision – students are required to complete most of their chosen projects at home as storage space is very limited.

Depending on demand, classes may be offered on Thursday evening –  18:00 to 20:00

Wood Carving Course

Tuition in wood carving is offered on an ‘ongoing basis’ – from beginners to more advanced carvers – students can join a class anytime regardless of their skill level.

All projects made during the classes may be taken home.

Stippling – mainly backgrounds.

We offer some specialised courses other than the foundation courses, these courses are negotiable in price depending on what needs to be done.

What to expect:
Depending on demand, we occasionally run specialist courses on a wide range of powered hand tools as well as on standing woodworking machinery.
Students are shown how to ‘tweak’ machines or add accessories to obtain the best results from a particular machine.

On request, one-on-one tuition may be arranged with one of our tutors.

We will endeavour to cover any requirement you may have or any matter that you require tuition on. Certain topics may be covered in DIY courses we run from time to time.
Specialised & DIY course

Fixing / installing mortise locks, fixing cornice & skirtings affixing shelves

What to expect
Depending on demand and the nature of the project, tuition in a particular craft can be given or assisted with – even though it may be limited to specific assistance – e.g. making a weaving loom, a press for dry flowers or providing pieces of different woods for an intarsia piece.

We are also able to assist with patterns, jigs, materials and tools for specific projects be they small or very large undertakings.

Advanced Projects
Duration: 4 to 6 classes
(Consecutive Sundays)

Additional sessions R400 each Plus cost of materials.
Time: 14:00 - 17:00

Projects:
By consensus!
Participants make suggestions and a vote is taken as to which project is carried out.
The first session will be a planning session – preparing sketches, choice of wood, fittings, specialist consumables if required
Maximum 4 participants

Please note fees are reviewed annually – usually in June

No refunds will be given for sessions not attended.

On inquiry, an enrollment application form will be sent to prospective students which, needs to be completed & returned with a deposit of R300 to secure a place on the course applied for.

Students should bring with them writing materials and any refreshments they may require.

Students missing a particular session may take a ‘make-up’ session provided adequate notice is given.  Usually, these ‘make-up’ sessions are given on weekdays – preferably on Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday afternoons but maybe on alternative days/times as may be agreed upon. 

Reservation are on the basis of first-come, first-served!
